Festive fun as joint celebrations come to city!
Worcester’s countdown to Christmas starts with a bang this year, as CrownGate Shopping Centre and VisitWorcester join forces to host a Big Worcester Switch-On spectacular, on Thursday, November 12th.
The joint Christmas event, rolling celebrations at The Guildhall and CrownGate into one festive extravaganza, will star young singing sensation, Charlie Green, who will help to switch on the city’s lights and inject some seasonal swing.
The festivities will kick off at the Guildhall in the High Street at 4.30pm, when popular BBC Hereford and Worcester presenter Howard Bentham and the team will start the party with games, music and entertainment, while Nick Ledbury and his Samba band will get the crowd in the mood for dancing.
Charlie, star of popular television show Britain’s Got Talent, will then arrive to help the city’s mayor, Councillor Andy Roberts, to switch on the city-centre’s Christmas lights.
The celebrations don’t stop there - a lantern-lit procession will then take the crowd through to Friary Walk, where they will arrive in style for the CrownGate lights switch-on event.
The winner of our Worcester News CrownGate Christmas lights competition will then have the chance to join Charlie and BBC Hereford and Worcester on stage at 6pm, to flick the switch and transform CrownGate into an array of sparkling lights, before Charlie rounds off the evening with a festive performance.
Those in the mood for some Christmas shopping can then take advantage of late night opening at stores around the city centre.
Erica Burlace, CrownGate centre manager said: “We are delighted to be working in conjunction with VisitWorcester this year, and can’t wait to welcome our special guest Charlie Green, who is sure to inject some toe-tapping swing.
“We feel that this year’s exciting, joined-up event offers a wealth of entertainment for all the family which is bound to get everybody in the mood for Christmas.”
Georgia Smith, head of VisitWorcester explained: “We are really pleased to be working in such close partnership with CrownGate again this year.
"The switching on of the Christmas lights across the city is a great time for young and old alike and we feel sure that everyone will want to turn out and support the children of Lyppard Grange Primary School who are all busy making fantastic colourful lanterns to light us on our way.”
