World records smashed by rowing teams!
The rowing teams taking part in a gruelling challenge at CrownGate Shopping Centre have now smashed all three of the world records that they set out to beat, as team coach John Maxwell reports:
"The University of Worcester Rowing Club now holds all 3 World Records that it set out to beat. Following the sterling efforts of the Women's Team, the Men have blasted past their World Record to set a massive new mark.
"The men are, despite having beaten the world record, still rowing in order to set a huge new accomplishment. At the point the previous world record stood at - 3,027km in 240 hours, the Men were 262km ahead - 3,289km.
"This is an enormous new world record, and one which could not have been possible without the unselfish dedication to the team that was shown by all concerned. The boys have dealt with injury and illness by covering for each other, and showing the kind of spirit that World Record Holders should possess.
"We are scheduled to row around 09:00 in the morning, at which point we will stop the world record attempt, having added 1 day and somewhere in the region of 500km to the old mark.
"The team that now holds the world record consists of: Nicky White, Mike Benyon, Rhys Paul, Will Stafford, Tim Rogers, Tom Trout, Ed Johnson, Guy Grane, Mark Houlden and Oliver Mitchell.
"The photo above is of Ed Johnson taking a quiet moment during one of his last pieces on the ergo.
"We have so far raised more than £2000, but more would be ideal!"
