Women's rowing team hits first world record!
Celebrations were in order for the women's team of rowers from the University of Worcester Rowing Club, who are taking part in a gruelling continuous rowing challenge in CrownGate Shopping Centre, after they broke their first world record.
John Maxwell, team coach, said: "At 11:26pm yesterday our Women's team set a new world record for the Women's Team Million Metre Row on the indoor rowing machine.
"The team of Fay Sheppard, Sophie Clarke-Hackston, Chloe Murdoch, Clare Broady, Sam Twamley, Hannah Clift, Isy Whitehead, Jossie Rose, Yuping Yu and Amy Dobbins took 86 hours, 16 minutes and 24 seconds to cover the million metres.
"The women now move on towards the longest continual row world record, and are holding their strong pace well beyond the million metre mark.
"The men have moved into overdrive - stretching further ahead of their target with every stroke as they approach halfway to the world record, more than 8 hours ahead of target!
"Standout performance today was from Tim Rogers in the men's team, responding to the praise of Rhys Paul in your paper by fighting back with huge scores of his own - from someone who only started rowing at Christmas!"
