Event at Boston Tea Party is the word!

Local performers can stand up and let their voice be heard thanks to a brand new event at Boston Tea Party, in CrownGate Shopping Centre.

The Phonic Room will promote local and regional artists who use the spoken word in their work, including comedians, poets, musicians and magicians.

A launch event, featuring some of Worcestershire’s most exciting orators, will take place at 7pm on Thursday, April 22nd.

Performers will include: Worcester poet, singer and musician Jason Towers; young short story-writer Lauren O’Donoghue; writer and poet Tom Murphy; critically-
acclaimed magician Ollie Mealing; writer and co-founder of the Worcester Music Festival, Lisa Ventura and female poet Tig.

The venture is a collaboration between Boston Tea Party and local theatre practitioner Jez Mort, who said:

“Over the past few years the spoken word has thrived as the boundaries between hip-hop and poetry have blurred and The Phonic Room is an attempt to bring together the eclectic voices of Worcestershire and the region to share their works.

“We are thrilled to be launching it at Boston Tea Party and have secured performances from some of the region’s most talented and exciting performers – I really would encourage people to come and see them all in action.”

It is hoped that further Phonic Room events will take place at Boston Tea Party and Mr Mort welcomes applications from performers of all spoken word arts and from artists of other mediums.

The launch event takes place at Boston Tea Party, CrownGate Shopping Centre, at 7pm on Thursday 22nd April.  Entry is £1.
